Support Forum

Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

Spcial processing of form with hidden field

11 years 6 months ago #12830 by bobmeetin
Do you have any documentation on how to custominze the processing when using hidden fields? In particular I'd like to do something like:

1) Depending on the content of the hidden field, prevent the form from processing and send the submitter to a custom goodbye page.

2) Same as above but capture the IP address into a table as well.

Dear Bob,

1. I'm not sure what you want to achieve, but I believe it will be better if you use the Javascript Custom Field instead (requires JS knowledge):
idealextensions.com/joomla-ext...tom-fields/106-javascript.html

2. Contact Enhanced always captures the user's IP address and record in the database table (if the save form option is enabled);

After the fact I see that the IP is being captured.

The goal: one of the problems with captcha is that it is a necessary evil and people don't like using it. My experience is that most bots attempt to plant links in forms using any of "link, url=, or http". They are easy to fill in hidden fields along the way. You can eliminate a great deal of comment spam by preventing a form from submitting if a hidden field is filled out.

Related problem: with one of my sites where captcha is not enabled I entered link, url and http in the banned content for both subject and details. Unfortunately this has no effect. Human or bot, the form still successfully submits and sends annoying spammish email. Am I misunderstanding how this should work?

Dear Bob,

1. I have already implemented this and you can enable the Honeypot feature in the Component Options under the "Contact Form" tab;

2. In the "Banned Text" you can enter words separated by ; in order to block the email. I just realized it was not very clear that you needed to add separate words with a ; so I have just changed the field's tooltip for the next version;

My turn to clarify. This is on one of my older sites still running joomla 1.5; I updated to the latest CE for joomla 1.5 that I have but I don't see the honeypot config anywhere.

If I go into parameters I had some of the banned text list but without commas. I just added the commas:

xcrpkdtfd,
http://,
fwwcvjaqnqyw,
burberry,
http,
www,
link=,
url:

I copied the same list into Contact --> Email params. Should it work now with commas in place?

Re Honeypot - do you have a short FAQ that describes what implementing it through CE does?

Dear Bob,

1. The Honeypot config is in the Component Parameters. Go to Components -> Contact Enhanced -> Options (button in the URL);

2. Each banned word has to be separated by semi-colons (;), NOT comas (,) and without the line breaks.

All the best,

Oops - old and tired eyes. I updated the list to:

xcrpkdtfd;http://;fwwcvjaqnqyw;burberry;http;www;link=;url=

Honeypot - this J1.5.26 site is employing 1.5.9.3 of CE. I followed the path, Components --> Contact Enhanced --> Options (but Options does not exist), so I went through Configuration --> Parameters. Sorry but I see no Honeypot option. If the list works fine, I'm good. With my Joomla 2.5 sites I will test this out. Thx.

Dear Bob,

Ops, I thought you were using the latest CE version for Joomla 1.5. which is 1.5.11.4;

The 1.5.9.x version do not have the honeypot feature;
