Support Forum

Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

For not working. Icon just spins round

14 years 4 weeks ago #2575 by stuart123
I have installed your form on my website, but it is not working.

It is using ja ores from joomlart. I'm sure the version of PHP is recent and hasnt caused me any problems with any other extensions.

Whenever I click "send mail", the little circular and spikey icon thingy (technical description :) just spins round and round and round.

The icon is clearly having great fun, but I am not :(

Can you help please?

Cheers

Hi Douglas,

I heard you were good :)

The site is very early in the build stage, and is offline.

However, I would like to give you a user name and password, and I will add the module to one of my ages and you can have a look to see what is going on.

Hi Douglas,

I have sent you a support e-mail with some more information.

Having changed some settings (as suggested in another forum post to me - sorry to have spread this over two threads), I get this error message (at least I presume it is an error message.

it sits just above the contact form on the right hand side of my page.

Hopefully it means something to you

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /MYWEBSITE/modules/mod_ajax_contact/helper.php on line 20

:)

I considered buying another form, but I really want this, and am pleased to see that you are as good as the recommendations on the JED. I might have to leave my first recommendation on the JED for this extension.

:)

Dear Stuart,

I try my best to make my customers happy! ;-)

Your site is throwing an error, if you access this page (yourwebsite .com/modules/mod_ajax_contact/ajax.php) you will see:
Call to undefined function: json_decode();
This means that your server is either running an old version of PHP or have JSON disabled (not likely).

Can you please ask your web hosting provider to either install the latest version of PHP or the PECL JSON package?
In order to increase security and performance I always suggest to run the latest PHP version available, however if your web host provider neglects to install the latest version they can easily install the PECL JSON package;

If they do not know how to install they can read about it here:
php.net/manual/en/install.pecl.php
It is not hard to do and your server will be able to handle JSON requests;

If you have any further question or if the problem persists, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kindest regards,

Well you've certainly made me happy.

Great customer service :)

I am speaking with my hosting company as we speak.

Here's some more information for you - if you don't mind having a look.

Does it change your prognosis or confirm it?

Thanks :)

Hi,

Having found what I believe to be the pecl json extension I noticed this information

json JavaScript Object Notation. Note: This extension is now part of PHP Core, so use it instead. As of PHP 5.2.0.

I'm running php 5.2.9, so maybe this means that pecl json extension is not the answer?

im still on the phone with my hosting company actually. they're almost as good as you :)

if you can provide any insight whilst we're still on the phone then it would be much appreciated:)

Dear Stuart,

That's odd! I've just logged in with the administrator credentials that you've gave me and in the PHP Information there is no information for json support. JSON is available in the PHP core since 5.2, so it should be listed there even if it was disabled.

I'm not a Linux expert, I bet your hosting company will come up with a solution faster than I can think of! ;-)

Hi Douglas,

My hosting company found json was disabled somewhere and enabled it. It didn't seem to make a lot of difference.

However, Internet Explorer 8 sheds some new light on the matter.

When loading the page internet explorer kicks out one error, which is: -

Message: 'this.fx2[...]' is null or not an object
Line: 183
Char: 5
Code: 0
URI: MYSITE/modules/mod_janewsticker/assets/script.js

I believe janewsticker relates to joomlart's newsticker, and is probably their own particular coding error.

However, and this might be crucial. When I click on the send email button of the contact form from ideal, I get a second error: -

Message: Syntax error
Line: 5585
Char: 3
Code: 0
URI: MYSITE/media/system/js/mootools-uncompressed.js

The tech rep from my hosting company shares at least one quality with me. He is not a javascript expert.

Are you able to recognise this syntax error as beloning to the ideal extension, and since it looks to be such a small syntax error, are you able to help me fix it ?

Cheers:)

Hi Douglas,

Of course I trust you, but might I ask - what will you be trying to accomplish with superadministrator status?

Thank you :)

Hi Douglas.

Sorry for disappearing on you last night. It was 3-4am my time and I was quite sleepy.

I have fixed the problem and your form is working perfectly well, from what I can see.

It WAS a javascript conflict and it seems that running joomlart's janewsticker module along with your ajax contact module causes there to be a javascript conflict.

Turning off either the janewsticker module or your form resolves the problem.

The form works and is brilliant. :)

But all of this shenanigans did set me wondering - what percentage of internet browsers will not be able to use your ajax open source contact form - perhaps because they have javascript disabled or some such thing? And what happens to those people - does your form fail gracefully, or will these people get frustrated.

IMO they partly deserve to be frustrated for disabling javascript and expecting the web to work perfectly for them, but what would happen to these users?

Cheers and regards
