Support Forum

Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

Error sending mails.

8 years 7 months ago #9840 by wally
Hi Douglas;

I installed ajax recommend on a site of mine. When I try to send a message I get back an error form the smtp server:

+++++++++
SMTP Error! The following recipients failed: foo@bar.at

SMTP server error: Invalid authentication (you can only send from @mydomain.at or its 550 aliases)
+++++++++
The test address I replaced with foo@bar.at is valid and the SMTP settings in Joomla work fine with other forms (Contact Enhanced).
If I use xxx@mydomain.at addresses in the form it works. Seems like the module tries to use the domain of the friends address instead of the one specified in the Joomla SMTP settings.

Dear Rainer,

That's probably because your mail server requires authentication. This is a server's security measure in order to avoid spammers. Please read this article (item #5):
ideal.fok.com.br/joomla-extens...emails-are-not-being-sent.html

PS: Please always inform the Joomla and Ajax Recommend version.

The SMTP settings in the Joomla configuration / server settings are correct (user, host, password,...)
otherwise I wouldn't be able to send any mail via my forms. The problem lies with ajax recommend only.

Sorry I forgot the version numbers.
Joomla 1.7.3
Ajax Recommend 1.7.1

Dear Rainer,

That's strange because it is working correctly in my development installation.

Can you make a full backup (for safety reasons) and provide an administrators account so I can take a closer look? You can use the Support -> contact form to send the details.

Best regards,
